I have a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in American Studies and Business Technology, which I obtained while working full-time at Southern. I am currently working on my Master’s in Instructional Technology and plan to complete it in December 2019.
I have worked on campus in a variety of jobs since 1995, starting in the University Bookstore, moving through Financial Aid, Office of Admissions, then moving into Dean’s Office for the College of Arts & Letters, now College of Arts and Sciences, for over 6 years. In 2012, I became the Programs Coordinator for the Office of Interdisciplinary Studies, which has now grown into the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Professional Development in Hattiesburg, MS. I love working with students to help them accomplish their goals and dreams as I have been able to do while working at USM. I am comfortable working with computer, which I use daily for work and home. Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google forms, list-serv and a few other electronic communication tools I have had to learn while at USM. I am new to Blogs, iMovie, and Access, which I have now used for classes in this program. I still have not use or created a podcast, which I see is part of this course's requirements, so that will be interesting to me. As I am not yet a teacher, I don’t have an actual philosophy yet, but I do believe we are all capable of learning, and should encourage others, children, young adults and older adults to continue to learn, because once we stop wanting to learn, what is the basis for being?

So glad to meet you Merita. I have never worked at the college level. I have only dealt with middle schoolers for the last 20 years. I too have issues with videos, if you need any assistance please reach out to me I look forward to working with you this semester. May I ask what got you interested in teaching?

Hi Gina, It is an interesting field for sure! I received my Associates in Technology in 1985, which so much has changed since then. We need someone to help out in our department to help out for sometimes, so if I have my master's I can fill in for our departments instructors. I do not wish to change jobs, I just want to have the availability to help out when needed.

Brandon, I had ITD 740 last semester, and we had to create an iMovie for class, it was interesting to say the least! But it was a good lesson, I have to say I learned a lot from Dr. Beedle in that course. Using iMovie to make a podcast sounds interesting also, so I may reach out to you!

I am happy that you were able to be in our group. If you need any help using GarageBand to create podcasts, just let me know. I will be happy to help.
